Backup SQL Server

Compare with backing up normal and Exchange data, you can set all related parameters in one step under Backup page to back up SQL database rather than having a long wizard to run. If you need to create a new task or plan, please pick the database you want to back up from the database list on the left hand at first, then the items you can set under this page include:

Basic information

Task name - specify a name for current modifying task.
Destination - decide where to save the image file, besides support selecting normal hard disk as the backup destination, you also can back up SQL server to tape (our product will ask for a certain amount of free space for temp data transfers on local hard disk when you decide to back up to tape).
Continue if error - whether to ignore media errors in the process.

Plan

All options under this section will only be available when the switch of Schedule turn to "On", otherwise, all settings will be grey out and unable to change. And for current version, you can specify time based on day, week and month.
And then, you need to decide which type of plan to use.

Full- always backup all databases and the transaction log.
Differential - only backup changed files since last full backup and the transaction file will be also included.
Transaction log - backup transaction log files only.

Options

Compression - whether to compress the image file in the process(only MS SQL 2008 Enterprise and the later version support this option).
Notification – whether to send the result of this plan to a specified email address, more about the setting, you may refer to Email notification.

Recovery mode

Simple - No log backups. Automatically reclaims log space to keep space requirements small, essentially eliminating the need to manage the transaction log space.
Full - Requires log backups. No work is lost due to a lost or damaged data file. Can recover to an arbitrary point in time (for example, prior to application or user error).
Bulk log - Requires log backups. An adjunct of the full recovery model that permits.
High - performance bulk copy operations.

Reduces log space usage by using minimal logging for most bulk operations.
